Shards | Bloodstained Ritual of The Night Wiki

Shards in Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night are collectible demonic abilities. The power of a defeated demonic entity will forcibly fuse with Miriam's crystal, allowing her to cast magic, summon allies and manipulate her environment.

As Miriam, the player will defeat enemies and progress through the story, obtaining shards along the way. Many shards drop randomly from these defeated enemies, while some are guaranteed one-time drops from boss encounters, with a small number only obtainable via crafting. Shards can be traded for gold with Merchants such as Dominique or enhanced by Johannes to amplify their power and effect. Duplicate shards are needed to fully upgrade an ability, so exercise caution when selling back shards.

There are six types of shards. Only one of each type can be equipped at a time, with the exception of Skill Shards.

Conjure Shard: Casts a one-time magical attack. Includes AoE, debuffing and elemental attacks, or summons a creature or demon. Consumes MP.
Manipulative Shard: Manipulate your surroundings or yourself temporarily. "Single Shot" types activate instantly on a button press with a one-time MP cost. "Sustained" types require the player to press and hold, draining MP over time.
Directional Shard: Aim Miriam's hand to launch a directional attack. One-time attacks consume MP, while sustained attacks drain MP over time.
Passive Shard: These stat- or ability-boosting shards are constantly active if equipped and cost no MP. A Passive Shard that has been enhanced to rank 9 converts into a Skill Shard, and can be equipped twice - both as a passive and as a skill - for amplified effects.
Familiar Shard: When equipped, a Familiar Shard summons a demon companion that can block, buff, attack, or heal. Familiar Shards will level up via EXP similar to Miriam and can be enhanced and upgraded like all other shard types. Familiars do not consume MP.
Skill Shard: Skill Shards, like Passive Shards, offer always-on stat, ability or attribute boosts that can be manually toggled on or off. There is no limit to the number of active skills at once, and skills do not cost MP. A fully-ranked Passive Shard will automatically become a Skill Shard, and can be equipped twice - both as a passive and as a skill - for amplified effects.

Shards can be upgraded in a variety of ways to improve their strength or efficacy.

Rank: Increase a shard's Rank (maximum of 9) by enhancing it alchemically. Generally adds a secondary ability or attribute. Increasing a Passive Shard's Rank to 9 will convert it into a Skill Shard.
Grade: Increase a shard's Grade (maximum of 9) by collecting duplicate shards. Generally increases power, duration, or size. Certain exclusive shards can only be fully upgraded by completing subsequent New Game+ runs.
Level: Increase a Familiar Shard's level via EXP. Your currently-active familiar receives EXP for any enemies Miriam defeats, as well as from its own kills and assists.

  Update 1.15 adds an additional directional shard that is unobtainable so it seems. Along with this are 2 additional scarves and 1 additional headgear item which also seem unobtainable. It would seem that they have amended the stats to included additional content from other DLC by mistake (Possibly Iga's BackPack DLC). Or they could be genuine additional items included with 1.15 which we need to locate but i really do doubt this, especially on the shard front as i have crafted every single possible shard and also picked up 100% of shards dropped by demons. So unless this shard has been hidden in a chest somewhere, there is no other place it could be. I know a few people are expiriencing this. Does anyone out there have any solutions to this yet?
