Manipulative Shards in Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night are a type of Shard that allow the player to manipulate enemies or the enviroment. There are different types of Manipulative Shards, some are a single use (press the button tu use them) and some of them are sustained (requires to hold the button to perform the action) and they are required to resolve some puzzles and to continue through the game.
